2014 Review 1 3rd Place Cooler

Noteworthy this year is all 3 reporters of the top 3 soakings from last year avoided the cooler completely this year.... good news for some of this years winners? These 3 soakings make you wonder if the reporters pack clothes to change into after work or if they have to wear them home. Are they able to clean the outfits up and wear them again?

3rd place cooler of 2014
Throughout the year, Alanna Rizzo managed to just catch splash damage a  few times, avoiding complete soakings until her black and white dress fell victim to water and blue powerade coolers that caught her off guard on 9/7, helping lead her to a runaway overall victory.

2014 Awards 2

Alanna continues the Dodger dominance after Kershaw takes both MVP and Cy Young.
Even Puig gets an award.

Most often soaked reporter
Alanna Rizzo got caught in several thorough soakings in September and despite avoiding several throughout the year, she still ended up with a proper soaking 4 times highlighted by Kershaw's no hitter and a blue shower with Gonzalez

Most Coverage/Quantity
Kris Budden caught nearly all of the leading water cooler and some of the following orange drink leaving her hair and dress saturated and scoring 9.5 points
http://instagram.com/p/p9518sh4R0/?modal=true

Most Damage
Alanna Rizzo's black and white dress with black heels probably needed some serious dry cleaning after the water and blue powerade shower scoring an 8 on the way to 3rd individual cooler.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAlh8XMMouc

Most publicity/timing
Alanna Rizzo earned bonus points getting caught in Kershaw's no hitter celebration scoring the high for the year in this category at 7. Plenty of pictures documented the no hitter

Dumping Dunce
During the celebration following Kershaw's no hitter, Puig manages to get just as much powerade on himself as he does on Clayton.  Maybe someone on the Dodgers can give him some tips on how to execute the powerade showers. Neither Yasiel nor Alanna look as happy as Kershaw to be caught in the celebration. Better luck next year Yasiel

Best Ice Bucket Challenge
Shannon Hogan took on the full challenge and soaked the entire outfit she worked the game in. She soon ended up with a walk off cooler but moved to a new job, ending her chances at any more soakings

2014 Awards

Congratulations to the Giants who ended the year with Bumgarner carrying them through the world series. During the offseason we'll post the best cooler showers of the last year. Here are this years "winners"

2014 Team Cooler Cup
The Astros started the year out strong with several early coolers soaking players and reporters but the reporters began dodging the coolers in the second half as the Dodgers ran away with the 2014 Team Cooler Cup title solidly catching reporters in the aftermath on numerous occasions, unfortunately for Alanna's soaked wardrobe.  https://mlblogsdodgersphotog.files.wordpress.com/2014/06/039.jpg: Kershaw's no hitter was one of the contributors to the Dodgers running away with the win

Dodgers: 86.5
Astros:  41.5
Padres: 30
Angels: 28

2014 Reporter Cooler Cup
A strong second half gives Alanna the run away win as she falls victim repeatedly after dodging them more frequently in the first half. Congratulations Alanna hopefully one of the Dodgers helps cover dry cleaning.

Alanna Rizzo: 60
Julia Morales: 29.5
Alex Curry: 28
Meredith Marakovits: 27.5
Kris Budden: 21

2014 Cooler Escaper
Alex Curry has been able to enjoy several players getting soaked, usually managing to avoid the aftermath. One of the many examples here: http://m.mlb.com/video/v32588761/texlaa-cron-on-his-major-league-debut/?game_pk=380990. Best part is the fist pump celebrating/taunting staying dry around 20 seconds. After becoming the first soaked reporter of 2014 she manages to stay mostly dry except in the division clinching celebration

Ken Rosenthal and Kemp 10/4

Ken was the latest to get caught in a Dodger celebration. Can the Dodgers come from behind to continue the fun?

Alanna Rizzo and Van Slyke 9/27

Van Slyke was part of the walk off so as a result he was part of a dual attempt gatorade shower. Both player and reporter avoided the initial blue cooler but didn't expect the second one and caught a good soaking from the available pictures. Didn't find any video replays so we'll go with the pictures. Unfortunately for Alanna's wardrobe the Dodger's seem primed for a deep playoff run and seem to prefer emptying their coolers on players and/or reporters.

Alanna Rizzo doesn't see the double cooler attack while talking about Gonzalez's big offensive output. She catches some of both buckets, including some blue which was bad news for the white top of her dress. In one of the highest scoring interview showers of the year, she jumps into a commanding lead as the playoff races heat up.

2014 Mid Year Awards

Nearing the all star break, we've made it through half of the games this season. Here's a look at how the awards half way through

Top Single Cooler
Leila Rahimi held the award until last week when Kris Budden got caught in a complete game celebration and ended up just shy of last years record from Kelly Crull.  http://coolercupmlb.blogspot.com/2014/07/kris-budden-72.html

Most often soaked reporter
Julia Morales caught a couple early showers before dodging a couple more but remains the only reporter to have gotten caught multiple times this year http://coolercupmlb.blogspot.com/2014/05/julia-morales-514.html

Best at staying dry
Alex Curry has been able to enjoy several players getting soaked, usually managing to avoid the aftermath. One of the many examples here: http://m.mlb.com/video/v32588761/texlaa-cron-on-his-major-league-debut/?game_pk=380990. Best part is the fist pump celebrating/taunting staying dry around 20 seconds.

Team Cooler Cup
Despite having a rebuilding year, the Astros are solidly in the lead despite several misses the last few weeks. Leila Rahimi (http://coolercupmlb.blogspot.com/2014/05/leila-rahimi-52.html) and Julia Morales (http://coolercupmlb.blogspot.com/2014/04/julia-morales-houston-astros-427.html) being the Astros targets this year share the team award with the Astros. But the Padres entered the discussion this past week after running away with it last year and could make a second half comeback

Astros: 45.5 -3*2 misses that I found = 39.5
Padres: 21
Yankees: 16.5
 Dodgers: 16
Angels:  13

Reporter Cooler Cup
Julia's two run ins with the powerade give her the lead at the half way point.  A couple times dodging the showers have kept her close to the rest of the pack. Will anyone else be unlucky enough to score a second shower? All 3 of the reporters from the top coolers of last year (see earlier posts) have stayed dry this year so someone could come from nowhere in the second half.

Kris probably thought she was safe after the pie started the celebration of Ross's 3 hitter CG but got caught in the heavy water and powerade shower that followed. Fortunately for her white dress the colored stuff came second after she mostly had made her get away but not before the water caught her pretty good as she turned to run. Probably the biggest soaking of the year so far, but not as strong of media coverage of the aftermath. Just shy of the biggest all time - see the top cooler of 2013

Julia Morales 5/14

The Astros looking like they'll run away with the cooler cup award with a hot start despite a poor record. They continued this run catching Julia a second time in the first of three coolers on Dominguez after the walk off. They even took a shot a Springer for the game tying homer.

The Astros wasted no time getting back to the coolers on Friday with Leila Rahimi and Springer, again sending two coolers, the second one seemingly intended for Leila, although the blue more or less missing both of them.

Julia Morales Houston Astros 4/27

Plenty of good walkoffs lately with reporters managing to avoid any showers but the Astros didn't need a walk off to pull out the coolers on McHugh and JuliaMorales. And because one wasn't enough, they brought a second one in to finish the job.

First contestant of 2014!

Alex Curry and Ianetta 4/16
Plenty of walkoff excitement in 2014 and some good gatorade baths for some players with no reporter or the reporter avoiding the aftermath. Last night found our first entrant into the 2014 cooler cup with Alex Curry unable to get out of the way of the cooler. With the available mlb video and twitter photos, below is the first score for 2014

2013 Year in Review 4

Final standings for 2013 approximated based on what could still be found during the off season. Jamie Hersch took two rounds of gatorade and dodged a couple others. One was highlighted earlier, the other was a cup of orange after the player got doused. We'll award her 3rd place. Nationals reporter Julie Alexandria gets 2nd place, getting two in a row to start her year and a few others throughout the year, although usually escaping the worst of it, or at least avoiding video/picture evidence. Apparently she wasn't a fan of the soakings, moving on after her only year on the Nationals sideline. Last years winner has moved to a different sideline, apparently hoping to stay drier. Kelly Crull took two in a row - one highlighted below - and a third one later on. Plenty of video and pictures along with colored liquid added to her scores giving her the 2013 Cooler Cup.

2013 Year in Review 3 Top Single Cooler

The Padres teamed up against Kelly Crull a day after she caught part of a cooler to completely soak her a second day in a row. Earning two bonus points for the second cooler in two days, her soaking scored a 21.5 aided by mlb and youtube video and blog/twitter pictures.

2013 Review 2

The second place cooler soaking went to Jamie Hersch and Colabello. Bonus points were awarded for the separate cooler for Jamie and for an away game and half a point for posting a picture with a sweat shirt afterword. C/Q 9.5 D 4 P/T 4 scoring a 20.5. She took it well posting twitter pictures along with the mlb video helping score the cooler.

2013 Year in Review 1

With 2014 just getting started, we'll take a look at the best cooler soakings of 2013. The third highest scoring walk off shower went to Jamie Erdahl and Gomes.

C/Q = 8.8
D = 4

Scoring an 18.8 made her one of the wettest reporters of 2013. MLB, youtube and twitter helped score the soaking.

Cooler Cup 2014

A couple years ago, the Nationals had a couple Gatorade showers go off course... and the sideline reporter got the better of it.... and as boys will be boys the trend took off last year with several teams getting into the act. This year we intend to recognize the reporter who falls victim the most/worst and review some of the unluckiest from last year. To add some competition, below is a scoring system to determine the hardest luck reporter. Until the weather and baseball season heats up, several of last years highlights will be scored and reviewed periodically.

Individual Reporter Scoring
Coverage/Quantity: how much the reporter ended up wearing
+ appx # of coolers on reporter instead of player *2
+ up to 2 points for visible soaking of front
+ up to 2 points for visible soaking of back
+ up to 2 points for visible soaking of top/shirt
+ up to 2 points for visible soaking of pants
+ up to 2 points for visible soaking of hair

Damage: how much the dry cleaning bill would be
+ up to 4 for off colored liquid - dark on light clothes, staining
female wardrobe
+2 wearing heels +2 wearing a skirt + 2 wearing a dress
male wardrobe
+2 wearing a collared shirt +2 wearing a tie + wearing a suit coat

Publicity/Timing: how easy was it to score, how big of a game
+ up to 3 points rating of video coverage/availability
+ up to 3 points rating of photo coverage/availability
+2 postseason - including clinching celebrations
+3 all star game or another national broadcast/reporter who doesn't cover the team regularly
+4 world series

Bonus points: new ones to be added, scoring of last years included
+2 for second day in a row (+4 for the really unlucky third day in a row)
+3 for first day on job
+2 for reporters own cooler
+1 for away game
+1 for after cooler selfie

Team Scoring
ratings under 10 will not count toward team, but will toward individual
victim and culprit's team gets the reporters score added to team points
new in 2014, once a team reaches 30 points, -2 for a reporter scoring less than 10
